16 February 2018 Statesmen Hit the Ice for Quarterfinals
The Hobart and William Smith ice hockey teams are both in action on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Statesmen open the New England Hockey Conference Tournament at 7 p.m. in The Cooler. The Statesmen are the No. 2 seed and host No. 7 Southern Maine for a quarterfinal game.
Hobart and Southern Maine met twice this season. On Nov. 3, 2017, the Statesmen earned an 8-1 victory in Gorham, Maine, and on Jan. 27, 2018, Hobart blanked the Huskies 4-0 in Geneva. Southern Maine closed out the regular season with a 3-18-4 overall record and a 3-12-3 mark in the NEHC.
On the road, the Herons will finish their regular season at 2 p.m. against SUNY Cortland in Cortland, N.Y. This is William Smiths last regular season game. The Herons earned a bye to the UCHC Tournament semifinals as the leagues No. 2 seed. The semifinals will be played on March 3.
William Smith and SUNY Cortland will meet for a second time this season on Saturday. On Dec. 8, 2017, the Herons locked in a 6-2 victory here in Geneva. The Red Dragons bring an 8-14-2 overall record to Geneva.
Tickets for the Hobart vs. Southern Maine game are $5 for adults and $3 for children. HWS students will be admitted free with valid ID courtesy of the Statesmen Athletic Association.
