The Pittsburgh Business Timesrecognized DelvinaL.Smith 09 with its inaugural 30 Under 30 award, a celebration of up-and-coming executives, innovators and thought leaders who will shape the future of Pittsburgh. Smith received the honor while serving as director of development for Providence Connections, a nonprofit organization working to strengthen families and enrich livesthrough comprehensive education and developmental opportunities for parents and children.
Currently, Smith is the director of development and community engagement of Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG), an economic development enginededicated to advancing life sciences in Western Pennsylvania by providing knowledge, connection and capital to help companies grow, create jobs and improve the health of humankind.Smith has primary responsibility for the implementation and evaluation of PLSGs community engagement activities. These include public programs, community meetings, public gatherings and the development of fundraising strategies.
Additionally, Smith serves as chair for the PLSGs Under 40, Underserved Advisory Board. This group serves to advise the PLSG on how to best capture and share life sciences knowledge to improve its younger companies.
In Pittsburgh, she serves as an officer and treasurer on theboardfor the Young Nonprofit Professionals Networkof Pittsburghand is a member of The Leadership Development Initiative, a program for high-potential young professionals.
Prior to relocating to Pittsburgh, Smith worked as a fundraising event specialist in New York City, where she helped raise donations for various nonprofit organizations.
At the Colleges, Smith majored in anthropology and minored in peer education and human relations. She was treasurer of Caribbean Student Association, a member of the Budget Allocations Committee, and participated in the Jewish Culture House.
