8 February 2017 Phoenix Players Presents Cast Me Maybe
The Colleges student theater company, the Phoenix Players, performed a showcase of monologues in the Geneva Room on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Six students performed a one to two minute standalone piece from various well-known plays as a type of mock audition.
The showcase featured monologues from the following plays: Macbeth, A Raisin in the Sun and Lungs presented by Luis Figueroa 18, Kathleen Fowkes 18, Donovan Hayden 19, Olivia Milne 18, Samantha Shaffner 17 and Gail Quintos 17. The event was produced and directed by Quintos, Jacqueline Fisher 18 and Alex Kerai 19. The monologues were inspired by acting classes taught by the clubs faculty adviser Assistant Professor of Theatre Chris Hatch.
Each student performer spent significant time independently rehearsing for this showcase. With the help of classes as well as guidance from professors and fellow students, the actors and actresses were eager to show off their hard work to the HWS and Geneva community, Fowkes says.
Many of the students in the theatre department are starting to prepare for grad school auditions, or auditions elsewhere, and this low-pressure, high-fun setting is an amazing way to try out a new piece or take a risk with one youve had in your back pocket, she says.
The Phoenix Players are always open to new members who are interested in acting and want to get their feet wet. Please email Jacqueline.Fisher@HWS.edu or like their Facebook Page HWSPhoenixPlayers for updates, news, events or if interested in joining the organization.
