8 March 2019 • Arts Now What?! Opens in Davis Gallery
On display at the Davis Gallery at Houghton House through April 12, Now What?! is an exhibition that examines the little-known history of architects and designers who worked to further the causes of the civil rights, womens and LGBTQ movements during the past 50 years, and encourages viewers to add information to the timeline.
"The exhibitions content, conversations and stories work to inspire a new generation of design professionals to see themselves as agents of change by looking at the past to see new ways forward," say Lori Brown and Sarah Rafson, the exhibitions curators.
The Davis Gallery will host a reception for the new exhibit from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 8. During the opening reception, students, faculty and visitors will gather to form meaningful conversations about the intersection of these movements since 1968.
"The history compiled by the Now What?! curators, students, and activists is motivational, while prompting us to act to make our spaces more equitable," says Anna Wager, Clarence A. Davis '48 Visual Arts Curator. "Architecture and design affect every facet of our lives, and we hope this exhibition will inspire students to pursue their art and architectural practice through the lens of history, while innovating for the future."
The Davis Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The exhibit will be closed over spring break from March 18-22.
