Hobart and William Smith Colleges will host the second annual Multicultural Networking and Career Conference on Saturday, Feb. 11.
In 2016, Sankofa: the Black Students Union partnered with the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, the Office of Intercultural Affairs, Office of Advancement, and African and Latino Alumni Association to host the inaugural conference.
Like last years event, this years will include panel discussions, a luncheon and workshops with alumni and alumnae of color, as well as a keynote address from the Honorable Laura G. Douglas 79, Justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court and Supervising Judge of the Bronx County Civil Court.
During the event, the William Smith Alumnae Association will present Douglas with its highest honor, theAlumna Achievement Award, bestowedto an alumna who, by reason of outstanding accomplishments in her particular business, profession or community service, has brought honor and distinction to heralma mater.
The conference will begin at 11:15 a.m. with sessions running concurrently from 1:45 4 p.m. Panels will discuss topics such as life after HWS, not-for-profit, business and graduate school. The event will conclude with a dinner at the Presidents House at 5:30 p.m.
This program similar to and inspired by ALAA Weekend from the past helps HWS students learn from experts and network with alums of color, says Brandi Ferrara, director of the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education.
Sankofa, Caribbean Student Association, Latin American Organization are partnering with the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, Office of Intercultural Affairs, Office of Advancement, Department of Africana Studies and African and Latino Alumni Association, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to host the conference.
