19 January 2018 Marching On: 2018 Womens March in Seneca Falls

Every womens march arises in a moment, writes Betty Bayer, professor of womens studies and co-president of the National Womens Hall of Fame board of directors. Every march logs its protest in countless stories told from person to person and sung out loud and clear in communities organizing for equality, justice and social change.

Bayers op-ed, Marching on: Women march in Seneca Falls, was published recently in the Democrat & Chronicle in advance of the anniversary of the largest movement in U.S. history, the 2017 Womens March, which drew more than 10,000 protesters to Seneca Falls, N.Y.

This years march on Saturday, Jan. 20, is energized by a year full of activism around a host of political issues, local, national and global, Bayer writes. There is a strong sense of energy and direction this year, and that holds for the Womens March in Seneca Falls, per-Sisters for Womens Equality. We join with others to create inclusive and peaceful efforts to refuse injustice and to ensure candidates for office demonstrate records centered on justice and equality.

The 2018 events in Seneca Falls will begin at First Amendment Park of the Womens Rights National Historical Park, where speakers and performers will welcome and convene marchers at 10 a.m. The march will follow at 11 a.m., with a rally at noon at Seneca Falls Community Center.
