10 July 2020 Mangold 21: Underwriting Intern at Beazley

Kyle Mangold 21 is working as an underwriting intern at the Beazley Group global insurance company in New York City this summer.

At Beazley, Mangold is part of the Cyber and Executive Risk Team for the second summer in a row. His responsibilities include assessing risk of insuring companies by analyzing financial data and trends, providing documentation on underwriting calls, and assisting on projects to support the company.

Working at Beazley has given me theopportunity to apply what I have learned in the classroom to the real world. Classes I have taken in the Entrepreneurial Studies Department have prepared me for some of thetechnical items I need to know, says Mangold, an economics major and entrepreneurial studies minor, who will serve as captain of the Hobart soccer team in the fall. This experience has given me a foot in the door of the insurance industry and taught me skillsthat can be used in multiple jobs such as being able to analyze changes in markets, putting together presentations andevaluating different risks.

Mangold says his experience on the Hobart soccer team was invaluable in preparing him for the internship and future opportunities. The team instilled a lot of values in me that I will carry for the rest of my life in whatever I choose to pursue. It has taught me the importance of teamwork and working hard for a common goal. This often relates to the workplace as working with others is crucial to beingsuccessful.

While on the finance trip to New York City, offered by the Salisbury Center for Career Services and Experiential Education, he met alums at several banks, real estate companies and insurance companies. Going on this trip motivated me to reach out to alums and apply to jobs that summer, ultimately ending up at Beazley, he says.

On campus, Mangold is also a member of the Finance Society.
