6 December 2018 Leadership Institute Accepting Applicants
Designed for students with leadership experience in all levels, the Leadership Institute is inviting students from HWS and neighboring institutions to a three-day professional conference committed to enriching and enhancing participants ideas and skills. Facilitated by the Centennial Center, Leadership Institute 2019 will take place at HWS from Saturday, Jan. 19 to Monday, Jan. 21.
The goal is to create a balance between participants being able to create their own unique conference experience while also taking part in community building through dialogue, says Cait Finn, assistant director of leadership programs. We want participants to have autonomy over their conference experience.
This years theme, Navigating Change: As Leaders, Entrepreneurs, and Innovators, offers participants the freedom to build their own conference experience as they choose from a variety of workshops, lectures and keynote speakers. In addition, students will belong to a Home Group, a small group that invites attendees to reflect on their experience while discussing topics throughout the weekend.
I am grateful for the amount of professional developmentI was able to acquire over the weekend, says 2019 conference coordinator Carlos Robles 19, reflecting on last years conference. Not only did I grow in a professional sense, but also personally.
Caitlin Lasher 19 agrees that her participation in the conference in two previous years helped her advance as a leader. I enjoyed being able to talk openly with my peers from HWS and students from Geneva High School about relevant, but oftendifficulttopics, says Lasher. These dialogues are incredibly valuable and helped me talk about my own lived experiences and then listen to and respond to differing thoughts and ideas.
All students should consider applying! Its such a fantastic opportunity to network with presenters and be challenged to think in new ways, says Finn.
Applications for Leadership Institute 2019 are due to the Centennial Center by noon on Friday, Dec 14. The institute is free for HWS students.
