20 May 2019 • Alums Janis '76 to Deliver Baccalaureate Address

The annual Baccalaureate tradition offers the graduating Classes, their families and members of the HWS community a reflective pause with prayer and music during Commencement weekend. Featuring an address by Christine Janis '76, the 2019 interfaith celebration of the graduating seniors accomplishments will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. in St. John's Chapel.

Janis was a portfolio manager at American Stock Exchange before leaving the financial industry to serve homeless populations and at risk children in South Bronx, N.Y. After working as a pastoral crisis counselor and volunteer development coordinator at Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, Janis went on to attend Yale Divinity School where she studied Episcopal philanthropy and liturgical praxis and change. Since then, she has worked with the Episcopal Diocese of New York and the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, where she reported to the Bishop's office. She has also worked at Yale University and as a consultant at the University of Connecticut, and is a member of the Junior League.

Currently a volunteer historian at Trinity Episcopal Church on the Green in New Haven, she has served on the East Side House Board of Managers and the New York State Junior League. As a student at HWS, Janis majored in urban studies and was elected to Pi Gamma Mu, the oldest interdisciplinary social science honor society.

Following the Baccalaureate ceremony, a reception will be held. All are welcome.
