11 November 2016 HWS: Top TurboVote Campus

Hobart and William Smith are heading into Election Day as the No. 1 campus nationally for registered student voters among all colleges and universities using TurboVotes registration system.

Since the beginning of 2016, more than 950 students or about 41 percent of the total HWS student population have registered to vote. As the top school, the Colleges ranked ahead of Harvard University, Amherst College, Bowdoin College and University of Notre Dame. In 2014, HWS was named TurboVotes Top Campus of all Time based on the percentage of students who signed up to vote.

Throughout the election season, the student-run organization HWS Votes, led by Josh Weinstein 17 and Rotimi Adeoye 18, maintained high levels of campus engagement, helping more than 750 students get absentee ballots and about 200 more to register in Geneva. Associate Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL) Jeremy Wattles, who serves as the clubs adviser, has been instrumental in guiding the clubs get out the vote efforts.

In light of the Presidential Election, HWS Votes is hosting an Election Night Watch Party at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in the Vandervort Room of the Scandling Campus Center. The event will include food and live coverage of the election.
