3 November 2017 Herons, Statesmen Host Championships

LL Soccer Tournament 2The William Smith soccer team and Hobart soccer team have each won their respective Liberty League regular season title, giving them the hosting rights for the leagues semifinals and championships this weekend.

The matching wins mark the Herons 11th straight Liberty League regular season title and Statesmens second consecutive title.

This weekend, the Liberty League Womens Soccer Tournament will be played on Boswell Field.

  • The Herons will play in the first semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m. against No. 4 seed St. Lawrence.
  • No. 2 Vassar will take on No. 3 RIT on Saturday in the second semifinal at 6:30 p.m.
  • The winners will advance to the championship on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 3:30 p.m.

The Liberty League Mens Soccer Tournament will take place at Cozzens Field.

  • The Statesmen will play in the first semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. against No. 4 seed RIT.
  • No. 2 Vassar will take on No. 3 St. Lawrence in the second semifinal at 1:30 p.m.
  • The winners will advance to the championship on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m.

LL Soccer Tournament 3The Herons, ranked No. 3 in the nation, bring a 15-1-0 overall record into tournament play. William Smith ranks seventh in Division III in win percentage (.938), 10th in goals against average (0.31) and 13th in shutout percentage (.688). Evie Manning 18 leads the team with 11 goals and 27 points. Megan Barwick 19 has handed out a team-high six assists and added seven goals for 20 points. Veronica Romines 19 ranks eighth in the nation with a 0.28 goals against average. She has an .852 shutout percentage and has earned seven shutouts.

William Smith and St. Lawrence just met on Oct. 28 in the final game of the regular season. The Herons earned a 2-1 victory in Canton.

The Statesmen bring an 8-4-4 overall record into postseason play. Hobart completed its Liberty League schedule with a 6-0-3 mark. The Statesmen lead the Liberty League with just 13 goals allowed and a 0.81 goals against average. Hunter Critchlow 18 has a team-high four goals and nine points. Goalie Alec Kaminer 19 has played the most minutes in goal. Hes sporting a 0.79 goals against average, an .800 save percentage and a 6-3-3 record. Kaminer has earned two shutouts this fall.
