The Hobart and William Smith ice hockey teams are off to fast starts to their 2018-19 seasons. The Herons, who are undefeated and receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com poll, will host Neumann University at The Cooler this weekend. The Statesmen, who are 5-2-0 overall and ranked 12th in the nation, will be in Boston to play a pair of conference games.

In their last game against Lebanon Valley College, the Herons scored two goals in each period as they rolled to a 6-0 victory. Six different players scored goals for William Smith, including Lindsay Brown '19, who led the way with three points on a goal and two assists. Emily Martino '21 gave the Herons a 3-0 lead in the second period and Morgan McMinn '21 scored her first collegiate goal three minutes into the third period. Olivia Williams '21 also stopped all 14 shots she faced as the Herons notched the first shutout of the season. The Herons finished the game with a 43-14 edge in shots on goal.

This weekend, the home games against Neumann University will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. This is the second consecutive season the Herons have been undefeated through their first six games. Additionally, forward Abbey Luth '22 was named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 20, after becoming the first Heron to record a hat trick during the Lebanon Valley game. She was also named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week. Luth leads the team with six goals and is third with nine points. She has recorded at least two points in each of her first three collegiate weekends.

For the third consecutive week, Hobart is ranked 12th in both the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls. On Friday, Hobart will take on UMass Boston, which is ranked ninth in both polls, at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Statesmen will take on Babson, which is receiving votes in both polls, at 4 p.m. The Statesmen are third in the New England Hockey Conference with six points. Jonas Toupal '19 leads the team with seven goals and 14 points this season. He is one of three players with a team best seven assists.

Individual Statesman players have also excelled. On Nov. 19, defenseman Tanner Shaw '19 and goaltender Liam Lascelle '22 earned weekly honors for the Hobart College hockey team following NEHC wins over Southern Maine (6-1) and New England College (5-1). Shaw was named the NEHC Player of the Week, while Lascelle took home the Rookie of the Week award.
