4 May 2020 Global Photo Winners Unveiled

During the Center forGlobal Educations Global Visions Photo Contest,attendees were transported to cities, vistas and landmarks around the world through photography.The virtual event included remarks by Associate Dean of Global Education Thomas DAgostino, student presentations and live voting. An annual tradition at the Colleges, the Global Visions Photo Contest was designed to give students space to showcase their unique travel experiences. As many people are confined to their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, CGE Pre-Departure and Re-Entry Programming Coordinator Jennifer ONeil, who hosted the event, believes the evening had arenewed purpose.

It is my hope that the beautiful photography is able to transport us to an amazing world that is out there waiting for us when were able to travel and take photos again, she says.

Winners were selected in five categories, including: architecture, black and white, landscape, portrait and street photography. Live voting during the eventdetermined the winner of the peoples choice category. The winners are: Architecture: Peggy Wagner 21, Black and White: Brandon Harding 20, Landscape: Ali Turner 20 and Nicholas Stone 21, Portrait: Elise Donovan 22, Street Photography: Chad Kilvert 20 and Peoples Choice: Samantha Buckenmaier 20.

Students also dropped in to the Zoom session to share their study abroad experiences through stories, videos, images, dance and song, including: Camille McGriff 22, Molly Powers 21, Ani Freedman 22, Lindsey Lesniak 21, Sami Foulk 22 and former CGE staff member Jordan Lorez 17.

In these challenging times, now more than ever, the Center for Global Education hopes that the Global Visions Photo Contest virtual event connects the HWS community in our continued commitment to international education and global citizenship, ONeil says.
