The Liberty League named two Hobart and William Smith scholar-athletes Squash Performer of the Week. Lydia Gabby Fraser 20 from William Smith Squash and Quinn Udy 21 from Hobart Squash both received the title.
Over the weekend, Fraser went 1-1 on the Smith Squash Court. Against No. 17 Dickinson, she rallied to defeat her Red Devil opponent in five games at the No. 1 spot (8-11, 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 11-5). Fraser leads William Smith with seven victories this season. She is 7-3 at No. 1 this winter. On Sunday, she extended her opponent to four games during the Herons loss to No. 8 Cornell.
The No. 23 Herons are 5-5 overall. William Smith will be off this weekend before competing in the Liberty League Championship on Jan. 27-28.
Udy went 3-1 in his first four collegiate matches for the Statesmen. He was a perfect 3-0 at No. 2 and lost his lone match of the week in the top spot of the lineup. Udy made his collegiate debut last Monday, defeating Stanfords Raghav Mehrota 11-5, 11-9, 11-7. On Wednesday, Udy helped Hobart rally past Tufts with an 11-4, 11-9, 11-4 win. He collected Hobarts lone point in its 8-1 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. Udy defeated Hal Holappa 11-2, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8. On Sunday, against Cornell, Udy was defeated 11-6, 11-4, 11-5 in the No. 1 spot.
The Statesmen were 2-2 last week, defeating Stanford 8-1 and Tufts 5-4 in Palo Alto, Calif., before falling to Dickinson and Cornell over the weekend. Hobart will be back in action on Friday afternoon when it hosts the University of Western Ontario at 2 p.m.
