#ExploreHWS in 2019-20
10 July 2019 #ExploreHWS in 2019-20
During her first year on campus, Hobart and William Smith Colleges President-Elect Joyce P. Jacobsenis leading a community-wide initiative to engage the campus with the history, ideas and people that make HWS such a vibrant place.
With #ExploreHWS, Jacobsen is asking members of the HWS and extended community to follow along with her as she explores the Colleges. From the curriculum and academic departments, to study abroad and public service, to the lives and careers of alums, to the Colleges coordinate system and commitment to diversity, Jacobsen says she plans to learn all I can about the institution and to engage the community in the Colleges multidimensional history, the vital work happening on campus today and the promise of the future.
Alongside meetings with HWS groups and community members, the yearlong theme will be supported by a number of events and resources, including:
- the 2019-20 Convocation speaker, Matt Lamanna 97, associate curator of vertebrate paleontology at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History who has received international attention after discovering a number of new dinosaurs across the globe;
- the #ExploreHWS video series premiering this fall;
- a webpage documenting Jacobsens journey exploring the Colleges;
- and thePulteney Street Podcast, launched earlier this year, in whichJacobsen interviews members of the community, including Executive Editor ofThe New Yorkerand former HWS Trustee Dorothy H. Wickenden 76, L.H.D. 14 and Associate Professor of Environmental Studies Beth Kinne.
