28 April 2020 Enjoy The Global Cafe

The Global Cafe is a robust part of the Center for Global Education's pre-departure and re-entry programming. Hosted by students who have studied in countries around the world, the series provides space for students to share their experiences with the broader HWS community. With campus closed due to pandemic protocol, a video has been created to share and celebrate this past year's Global Cafe events and inspire students to study abroad in the future.

Led by Pre-departure and Re-entry Program Coordinator Jen O'Neil, the tradition of the Global Cafe began in 2018. Since then, students have prepared meals based on recipes they learned from their host families, led dance workshops and showcased their artwork and multimedia projects. Several have been hosted by international students.

In February, a Global Cafe featured the art of Flamenco and Ballet dancing that students explored in Spain and Brussels. During the event held in Hirshson Ballroom, tapas were served.

In the fall, Djeneba Ballo '20 led a workshop about blogging while studying abroad in Dakar, Senegal. During the session, Ballo discussed her effort to debunk Western myths about life in Africa. While abroad, she studied at LInsitut Superieur de Droit de Dakar.

Other Global Cafes have included Irish Tea and Traditions, Oktoberfest, Danish Christmas, Chinese Autumn Festival, and more.

The video was created by Adam Farid '20.
