20 September 2019 • Alums Diehl '05 Leads FLX Oktoberfest

David Diehl '05 is helping to coordinate the first annual FLX Oktoberfest Block Party, which will take over Seneca Street in Geneva with carnival games, bouncy houses, live music performed by local artists, German inspired food vendors and craft beer and cider from local brewers. The celebration, which will also feature traditional Oktoberfest rituals and competitions, begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 and will run until 10 p.m.

"There hasn't been a big festival here with our growing craft beer industry," says Diehl, who looks forward to giving back to the Geneva community with the day of free family friendly activities.

Diehl has been at the crux of the food industry and journalism since he graduated with a degree in writing and rhetoric. In Brooklyn, N.Y. he ran a restaurant and worked as a freelance writer before returning to the Finger Lakes. Now in Canandaigua, he previously managed the Young Lion Brewery taproom and continues to write, exploring the regions fast-growing craft beer scene in his latest article, Brewing the Finger Lakes, in Edible Finger Lakes magazine.

Diehl was recruited to help manage FLX Oktoberfest this spring by Geneva-native Kelly Guilfoyle, a fellow craft beer enthusiast and owner of Kelly Anne Inc. who initiated the event. Massa Construction is the celebration's main sponsor.
