To kick off the 2018 semester, the Davis Gallery at Houghton House will unfold two of its newest exhibitions, Sacred Thunder by Barry Darling and an installation by Stephen Reber. The opening reception for both works will take place on Friday, Jan. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Darling is a Visual Arts Program Assistant Professor at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. and serves as the director of the Department of Art at Henninger High School in Syracuse.
Through visual poetics defined within intensely layered colors and playful engagements, Darlings compositions have a richness that evoke emotion and exude a depth of wonder, inciting beautiful contemplation, according Darlings artist statement.
Reber, whose work will be featured in the Solarium Gallery at Houghton House, lives and works in Chicago as a teacher for The School of the Art Institute. Through duplication and mimicry, Reber creates works that address American identity, desire and innovation,the artists statement says.
Both exhibits will remain open through Friday, Feb. 23. The Davis Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 1:30 4:30 p.m. The gallery is closed on Sundays and holidays.
