Iowa State Universitys Jack Seitz will lead a talk titled Snow Wells, Cholera, and Nomads: Water and Empire on the Kazakh Steppe on Thursday, March 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Stern Hall room 103. The talk is sponsored by HWS Departments of Russian Area Studies, Asian Studies, History and Environmental Studies.
Seitz talk reflects the focus of his Ph.D. dissertation in history at Iowa State University on theinteraction between settlers and nomads of the Kazakh Steppe from 1881-1928. His research explores the intersections of Russian/Soviet, environmental and agricultural history. His work has been published in journals including World History Connected and on websites like Teaching History.
The talk is free and open to the public.
Seitz earned his BA in history from Dickinson College and holds an MA in Central Eurasian Studies from Indiana University.
