26 April 2018 • Arts Classical Guitar Performance features Ken Meyer
Classical guitarist Kenneth Meyer will perform and discuss questions related to the history and art of the instrument on Friday, April 27 at 2 p.m. in Froelich Hall. Meyer, the first-prize winner at the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Artist Competition, has received acclaim from The Washington Post for the impressive gravity and power of his style.
Meyer's record includes performances at Carnegie Hall, the historic Basilica di San Clemente in Italy, and several venues throughout the globe. His scholarship and artistry has been recognized by awards from the Barlow Endowment, the Argosy Foundation, Eastman School of Music, among others. His diversity as a musician has led to performances on mandolin, banjo and electric guitar with the Syracuse Opera, the Syracuse Society for New Music and the Broadway touring production of The Who's rock opera Tommy. Meyer was recently featured with Cornell University's Ensemble X under the direction of Pulitzer Prize winning composer Steven Stucky in a new concerto for guitar and chamber ensemble composed by Andrew Waggoner.
Meyer holds degrees in music composition and performance from the State University of New York at Fredonia, as well as a master's and doctorate from the Eastman School of Music. He has served on the faculty at East Carolina University and SUNY Fredonia, in addition to holding visiting professorships at Eastman and SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music. He currently directs guitar programs at Onondaga Community College and Syracuse University's Setnor School of Music.
