22 June 2021 Chichora 21 Interns with Madison Square Garden

Caitlin Chichora 21 spent her summer interning for Madison Square Garden where sheworked as a student associate on the VIP Services Team.

CHICHORA CAITLINAn avid sports fan and longtime admirer of Madison Square Garden, Chichora applied for the MSG Entertainments student associate program through LinkedIn. An American studies and economics major, her class work has proved to be advantageous as her main responsibilities have been focused on MSGs archival collection.

MSGs archive spans from 1879 to the present and consists of two major collections: Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall. There are close to 200,000 discrete catalogue records tied to artifacts in both collections. Artifacts include everything from a signed tennis racquet from Martina Navratilovas retirement match in 1994 to a scale used to weigh in Muhammed Ali before a boxing match-up at The Garden in 1971.

Her work has included research on artifacts and prospective loan opportunities as well as updating the online archival database. Chichora values her liberal arts education and the variety of classes she has been able to take on at HWS. These classes have included Professor Ani Mukherjis Methods of American Studies class, which was based around practicing and analyzing archival techniques underlying American history research, which proved to be extremely valuable for this summers position.

Much of the work that Ive been doing this summer has been collections-based research that will help deepen the companys connection to its event and corporate history, shares Chichora.

Although the internship has been mostly virtual, Chichora has built valuable relationships across the MSG organization. She has used the opportunity to network with a number of teams within Madison Square Garden and have fascinating conversations on a daily basis with all types of people within the company. Being a part of the companys VIP Services team is a cross-departmental experience that has allowed me to work alongside the executive team and granted me the opportunity to connect with them.

Through this internship, Chichora has learned the importance of being open and jumping on new opportunities. I have been able to expand my skillset, adapt to new concepts, and broaden my understanding of both the sports and entertainment industries in an incredibly unique way.

Chichora is a member of the Colleges Finance Society and was a member of the William Smith tennis team for her first two years at HWS.
