The Office of Diversity & Inclusionand the Office of Intercultural Affairs hosted a campus conversation on Islamophobia on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
The forum is expected to bring awareness to the campus community about how Islamophobia alienates Muslims and non-Muslims alike from their true selves and to find ways to address Islamophobia and other xenophobic attitudes toward the other that can build mutual respect and collaboration, said Associate Professor ofReligious Studies Shalahudin Kafrawi, before moderating the conversation. The panelists will bring their experience involving Islamophobic remarks and attitudes toward them, their family, or their friends. To shed some light on the assumption behind Islamophobia, the Muslim students will also talk about what Islam and being a Muslim means for them.
Student panelists included Zahra Arabzada 19,Djeneba Ballo 20,Mohammed Daajneh 17,Sidi Diop 19 and Nimer Farhood 18.
The event, which was open to the campus community, began at 7 p.m. in the Bartlett Theatre.
