The 2021 Hobart and William Smith Athletics Day of Donors was a record-breaking success. The 24-hour event shattered the record for most dollars raised in a single day as alums, parents and fans donated more than $800,000 in support of the Statesmen and Herons.
On behalf of everyone in Hobart and William Smith Athletics, I cant say thank you enough for the generosity of our donors during Athletics Day of Donors, saysDeb Steward, associate vice president and director of athletics and recreation. Their loyal support of the Herons and Statesmen will allow us to make meaningful enhancements to the student-athlete experience and reaffirms the lifelong affinity that our students have for these Colleges.
The fundraising total includes a challenge gift of $25,000 from James F. 56, L.H.D. 12 and Cynthia L. Caird L.H.D. 12, which provided bonus money to the top three Hobart and top three William Smith teams for percentage of dollar goal met. The William Smith rowing team and the Hobart soccer team were the top finishers in the Caird Challenge. The Herons raised 764.4% of their goal, while the Statesmen raised 720.5%. On the William Smith side, soccer (688.7%) and lacrosse (284.7%) finished second and third, respectively. Finishing second to Hobart soccer was rowing (547.4%) while lacrosse (414.6%) was third.
The Cairds donation also supported prizes to the teams with the most creative fundraising videos.Hobart soccerandWilliam Smith basketballwere judged to be the winners of the video contest, edging outtennisandstrength and conditioning.

In addition, each team got a $500 boost toward its fundraising goal from the Heron Society and the Statesmen Athletic Association.
All 23 teams as well as the sports medicine and strength and conditioning programs exceeded their dollar goals for the day.
After a day like yesterday, its hard to say whos more competitive, the current Statesmen and Herons or our passionate fan base that once again demonstrated its dedication to the Colleges and to our championship-caliber athletic programs, says Vice President for Advancement Bob OConnor P22, P23.
