4 December 2018 • Athletics Abdelhafez garners Rookie of the Week honors

Hobart College first-year Mohamed Abdelhafez was named the Liberty League Men’s Squash Rookie of the Week by the conference office today. This is the third time this season that he has been honored as the conference’s top rookie.

Abdelhafez was 2-1 in the No. 2 spot of the Statesmen lineup at the 2018 Wesleyan Round Robin this past weekend. He opened the round robin with an 11-3, 11-8, 11-4 win over Colby’s Alex Spafford. The next morning, he extended his winning streak to three with an 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 victory over Wesleyan’s Yahya Ladiwala. In his lone loss of the weekend, Abdelhafez was edged by Dickinson’s Sergio Martin in five games, 4-11, 11-3, 17-15, 6-11, 12-10. Abdelhafez is 6-3 overall and a team-best 5-3 in the No. 2 spot of the lineup.

Hobart was 1-2 at the Wesleyan Round Robin. They knocked off the host Cardinals 7-2 on Saturday morning. The Statesmen were defeated by No. 24 Colby 7-2 and No. 19 Dickinson 8-1.

Hobart will be back in action on Jan. 12 when it welcomes Western Ontario to the Smith Squash Center.
