Make poetry a part of your life
6 February 2007 Make poetry a part of your life
Maxwell C. Wheat Jr. 51, author of God-Hawk: Poems of Nature, and Following their Star, and co-author of A Sisterhood of Songs, will present An Evening of Poetry Discovery, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 12 in the Finger Lakes Institute classroom.
Wheat has published poems about the Finger Lakes environment, the Geneva community and the Colleges. His poetry-reading workshop, designed for non-poets, will help participants realize that they can understand poetry, have fun with poetry, and make poetry a part of their life.
The workshop will be divided into three parts: the comforting language of poetry; readings of poems written by William Cullen Bryant and others; and listening to his writings about Geneva, the HWS Biology Department, and the natural environment.
He received a bachelors degree in English from HWS with a minor in education, and masters degrees from New York University in 1960 and from State University of New York at New Paltz in 1965.
This event is free and open to the public; registration is requested by calling ext. 4382 or e-mailing fli@hws.edu.
