30 October 2006 Social Norms presentation scheduled in Boston

Two members of the HWS faculty David Craig of the chemistry department and Wes Perkins of the anthropology and sociology department will present their research findings at the American Public Health Association's annual meeting and exposition, Public Health and Human Rights, Nov. 4-8 in Boston.

Their topic will be a Successful social norms campaign to reduce high risk drinking and tobacco use among intercollegiate student-athletes.

Most Valuable Players, an intervention program, was designed to reduce harmful misperceptions of peer norms and reduce personal risk. It involved communicating accurate alcohol and tobacco norms targeted student-athletes and surveying them in 2001, '02 and '03.
