The 2006 convocation speaker will be Dorothy Wickenden 76, executive editor of The New Yorker.
Wickenden was the executive editor of The New Republic and the national affairs editor for Newsweek magazine and has been a contributing writer for The New Yorker, The New Republic, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The Wilson Quarterly.
Additionally, she was the editor of The New Republic Reader: Eighty Years of Opinion and Debate, a compilation of the best work from some of the magazines top contributors, including George Orwell, Rebecca West, John Dewey, Arthur M. Schlesinger and many others.
The academic convocation ceremony marking the start of the new school year will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 on the lawn of Stern Hall.
