Hobart junior oarsman Richard Klein (Staples/Westport, Conn.) earned the right to represent the United States at the U23 World Championships, July 20-23, in Hazewinkel, Belgium. Kleins lightweight mens quadruple sculls qualified for the international event during the USRowing Under 23 Team Trials on Carnegie Lake in Princeton, N.J.
Saugatuck Rowing Clubs lightweight mens quadruple sculls quartet of Klein, Daniel Feldman (Miami, Fla.), Jon Winter (New Haven, Conn.), and Brian de Regt (Rowayton, Conn.) raced uncontested. They finished with a time of 6:05.7, besting the qualifying time standard by three seconds.
Klein completed his sophomore season as a member of the varsity eight, helping the Statesmen bring home four Liberty League Boat of the Week awards, the conference championship, and the Liberty League Crew of the Year award. As a first-year, Klein earned the teams Rookie Award at the annual Block H Awards Banquet.
