Yvonne Zimmerman, the Fisher Center pre-doctoral fellow, will deliver a lecture on her research, Deliver us from Evil: (Christian) Freedom and United States human trafficking discourse, at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 in the Fisher Center, 212 Demarest. All are invited.
Her talk will explore how assumptions about gender, sex and morality contained in The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 rely on a world view associated with Protestant Christianity.
By considering the links between how U.S. policy conceptualizes and promotes religious freedom on one hand, and the gender ideology that its anti-trafficking stance endorses on the other, Zimmerman will show how the freedom that these envision is made on a distinctly Protestant image.
