The Phoenix Players will present five one-act plays on the stage of the Bartlett Theater at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11; and Saturday, Nov. 12. Admission is free.
The evening will consist of five short plays directed, performed and produced by students: Sure Thing by David Ives, directed by sophomore Adria Barata; Writers Cube by sophomore Jonah Levy, directed by first-year Will VanSteen; The Successful Life of Three, by Maria Irene Fornes directed by first-year Hallie Bergman; Boticelli, by Clarence Witherbottom directed by first-year Sydney Hess; and Hunger, by Eugene Pillot directed by sophomore Jules Ferraro.
Sure Thing is a comedy about a man and a woman meeting and re-meeting in a cafe. Every time a flaw is presented in their meeting, a bell rings and the mistake is fixed until they find each other an appropriate fit to their romantic desires.
Writers Cube is about a successful screenwriter who suddenly finds that all of his inspiration (which he finds in his dreams) has run dry. Attempting for a more immersive technique, he tries to enter a coma while his mother, best friend, and agent run frantically trying to thwart his attempts.
Boticelli, set in the battlefield in Iraq, is an ironic comedy about two soldiers who test each other's knowledge of history, smoke pot, and reminisce about the past while awaiting a target to show his face.
The Successful Life of Three is a wacky vaudeville-style piece thats funny as hell.
Hunger is an existential fairy tale about the desires of human nature.
