23 January 2026 Winter Storm Warning
Dear Members of the HWS Community,
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, a Cold Weather Advisory and a Hazardous Weather Outlook for our area. Heavy snow is expected to start late Saturday with significant accumulations of up to 10 to 15 inches likely by Monday afternoon. Bitterly cold wind chills as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero are expected to start this afternoon through Saturday afternoon. In these conditions, frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes.
In response, Hobart and William Smith is asking all students and employees to use good judgment and caution when travelling to or around campus. Employees are encouraged to consult with their direct supervisor, and those able to work from home should do so. Essential personnel should be in contact with their supervisors regarding shift expectations. Please refer to the Inclement Weather Policy located on the Human Resources webpage for details.
As a residential institution, HWS will remain open. Faculty who need to move their Monday classes to remote learning should communicate that to their students via email.
In anticipation of the City of Geneva implementing winter parking restrictions and enforcement this weekend, students, faculty and staff who reside off campus may park in the Medbery North parking lot for the duration of the winter storm, regardless of whether they have a valid parking permit. Winter parking restrictions apply to all city streets running through campus, including Pulteney Street, St. Clair Street and others.
For any immediate safety issues, contact Campus Safety at 315-781-3333.
We will communicate further updates as necessary via email and urge everyone to stay safe.
