7 August 2026 HWS Launches Accelerated Pathway to Johns Hopkins Business Master's Degree
Students can earn bachelor's and master's degrees in just five years through a new partnership with Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School.
Hobart and William Smith has established a new accelerated 4+1 pathway with Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, creating an opportunity for high-achieving students to earn a bachelor's degree from HWS and a Master of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University in just five years.
The program provides qualified HWS students with early access to graduate study at one of the nation's leading universities while reducing the effort, time and cost typically associated with earning an advanced degree.

A liberal arts education builds the capacities employers value most—critical thinking, creativity, and comfort with complexity,” says Jill Green, senior associate dean for Student Experience and Strategic Initiatives at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. “At Carey, students channel those strengths into solving real-world business challenges and building for what's next. Together, this partnership prepares Hobart and William Smith students to lead with purpose and create lasting impact.
The program does not require the GMAT or GRE and offers students significant financial advantages. Accepted students pay tuition equivalent to 70 percent of the standard full-time Carey Master of Science tuition rate and receive a financial aid package from Johns Hopkins at the time of admission to help families make informed decisions about the investment.
"This partnership reflects HWS' commitment to preparing students for lives and careers of consequence," adds Provost and Dean of Faculty Sarah Kirk. "By combining the breadth and rigor of a liberal arts education with an accelerated pathway to a world-class graduate business program, we are creating opportunities for our students to deepen their expertise, expand their professional networks and enter the workforce with a distinct advantage."
In their junior year, HWS students in good academic standing may apply for preliminary admission to select master's programs at Johns Hopkins. During their senior year, participants enroll in two graduate courses offered by the Carey Business School. Courses can be completed online or in person at Johns Hopkins' Baltimore or Washington, D.C., campuses.
After successfully completing their HWS bachelor's degree and the graduate coursework, students spend two additional semesters at Johns Hopkins to complete their master's degree. There are seven options for the Master of Science at Johns Hopkins: Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, Finance, Health Care Management, Information Systems and Artificial Intelligence for Business, Management, Marketing, and Real Estate and Infrastructure.
Professor of Business Management and Entrepreneurship Thomas Drennen says the pathway builds on HWS' emphasis on experiential learning and career preparation.

"This partnership provides a powerful next step for students who want to complement the critical thinking and leadership skills they develop at HWS with advanced, specialized training from Johns Hopkins. It is an exciting addition to the opportunities available to our students."
Students in the program receive advising and support from both institutions to ensure a seamless transition from undergraduate to graduate study.
