27 October 2026 • Athletics Gaines ’83 Recognized for Leadership at RiverSpring Living
Former HWS Trustee honored for his service to the New York City organization dedicated to enriching the lives of older adults.
Former Hobart and William Smith Trustee Andrew Gaines ’83 was honored on Sunday, Oct. 18 at the 109th Hebrew Home at Riverdale Anniversary Gala in New York City for his 15 years of service to RiverSpring Living.
Gaines, who serves as vice chairman of the RiverSpring Living Board of Trustees, was recognized for his dedication to the organization and its mission of advocating for and celebrating empowered aging. The gala, themed “Family,” was held at Chelsea Piers and celebrated the many ways the RiverSpring community comes together to support older adults and their families.
“Andy has been a devoted partner and leader,” says Jeffrey S. Maurer, chairman of the RiverSpring Board of Trustees. “For 15 years, he has brought his time, talent, energy and heart to RiverSpring, and understands just how meaningful our work is in making sure older adults have the opportunity to live their best lives.”
Gaines says his involvement with RiverSpring has been rewarding.
“It has been a privilege to be part of an organization that does so much to enrich the lives of older adults,” he says. “I am deeply honored to be recognized and proud to be part of the RiverSpring family.”
Gaines’ commitment to service extends to his alma mater. A political science major at HWS, he was a member of Sigma Chi and the Hobart swimming team and earned his J.D. from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He served on the HWS Board of Trustees from 2013 to 2025, bringing more than a decade of leadership to HWS.
HWS Vice President and General Counsel Lou Guard ’07, who has collaborated with Gaines professionally for several years, was pleased to see him honored. “Andy’s lifetime of service to HWS, including as a Trustee, reflects the generosity, thoughtful leadership and commitment to others he has brought to RiverSpring. It is fitting to see him recognized for his dedication to improving the lives of older adults.”
Gaines’ professional career has focused on executive compensation and employee benefits. He joined Linklaters in 2022 and as partner is the firm’s U.S. Head of Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits. Previously, he was a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.
Gaines’ leadership has helped RiverSpring navigate the evolving needs of older adults, including efforts to strengthen services and expand housing opportunities.
“Andy has played an important role in our continued growth and evolution,” says David V. Pomeranz, RiverSpring’s President and CEO. “As a Board leader, Andy has supported initiatives designed to strengthen services for older adults, expand housing opportunities, and ensure that we are positioned to meet the changing needs of future generations.”
For more than 100 years, RiverSpring Living has provided programs and services for older adults, guided by Jewish heritage and values and a commitment to serving economically vulnerable populations. Its 32-acre campus along the Hudson River offers independent and assisted living, rehabilitation, memory care, supportive housing, skilled nursing and care at home. RiverSpring is also developing River’s Edge, New York City’s first Life Plan Community.
The gala was hosted by actor Barry Williams, best known for his role as Greg Brady on The Brady Bunch, who donated his time to the celebration.
