Renowned plastic surgeon shares expertise in Antigua and Barbuda.
Dr. Darrick Antell ’73 was selected for a Fulbright Specialist Program award, joining a group of 400 U.S. scholars and professionals chosen each year to share their expertise with institutions abroad.

Through the program, Dr. Antell worked with students at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine in Antigua and Barbuda, presenting on topics such as chin and jawline profiles, facelifts, breast reconstruction and his research on identical twins. Additionally, he participated in one-on-one meetings with students and held an extensive suture technique lab.
“Being able to interact with the next generation of medical students was a rewarding experience,” says Antell. “Hearing from them and in turn, passing on my expertise, has forged lifelong connections that I am grateful to have been a part of.”
A diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and spokesperson for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Antell has held academic appointments at Columbia University and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and has served as a professor of plastic surgery at American University of Antigua since 2010. He has maintained an internationally recognized Manhattan practice, primarily focusing on facelifts and rhinoplasties, for more than 25 years.
His pioneering research on identical twins demonstrated that environmental factors such as smoking, sun exposure and stress can influence aging more significantly than genetics. Published in Annals of Plastic Surgery, the landmark study was later featured in the Smithsonian Institution’s Human Genome Exhibit. He has been featured on “Good Morning America,” “The Today Show,” “The Early Show” and the ”Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and has frequently been quoted in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and other major news outlets.
At HWS, Antell was a biology major, a member of the Hobart Student Government, Student Court, head resident advisor and served as secretary of the Kappa Alpha society. He went on to earn his D.M.D. from Case Western Reserve University and his M.D. from the Medical University of Ohio at Toledo.
