20 October 2026 • Athletics • Sustainability Squash Team Puts Service into Action at ReUse Systems

During HWS’ annual Fall Day of Service, student-athletes helped a Geneva nonprofit reorganize its warehouse, supporting its mission of reuse and sustainability alongside alumnus Aaron Vicioso ’26.

In just two hours, 21 members of the Hobart and William Smith squash teams completed a task that might otherwise have taken weeks for the local nonprofit. On Saturday, Oct. 10, the teams helped ReUse Systems, Inc. reorganize its Geneva warehouse and prepare donated goods for resale, keeping usable materials out of landfills and available to the community.

Working in small groups, the squash teams moved furniture, cabinets, salvaged doors, student desks and donated factory overstocks into an adjacent space. They cleaned the warehouse floors before returning the items, leaving the space ready for inventory and pricing. Some of the materials had been salvaged from Eaton Hall, the former HWS science building demolished last winter.

The project was coordinated by Aaron Vicioso ’26, who serves as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America). At ReUse Systems, Vicioso helps the organization expand its capacity to support low-income community members through reuse and repair, including by developing funding opportunities and community outreach. In May, the Ed and Gerry ’33 Cuony Endowed Scholar graduated cum laude in studio art and education. He also holds an associate degree in fine arts and design from Corning Community College.

The squash teams joined nearly 400 HWS students who volunteered with organizations throughout Geneva and the greater Finger Lakes region during Fall Day of Service. Projects addressed a range of community needs, with participants assisting organizations such as Geneva Reads, Finger Lakes Youth Sports, the Geneva Theatre Guild, Ontario Pathways, Our Children’s Place and the Animal Rescue Center of Seneca County.

Now in its 32nd year, the triannual Days of Service program connects students with community leaders and introduces them to opportunities to contribute to the region.

For decades, HWS’ commitment to civic engagement has been recognized nationally. In August, The Princeton Review ranked https://www.hws.edu/news/2026/from-most-accessible-faculty-to-happiest-students.aspx.
