29 September 2025 Take Back the Night
Annual event unites campus in support of survivors and calls for an end to sexual violence.
The Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Programs & Services, in collaboration with Student Engagement, Campus Safety and HWS Student Government, recently hosted Take Back the Night.
The event began with a gathering at Coxe Hall, followed by a 20-minute march through campus and returned to Coxe Hall for closing remarks.
“Many participants reflect on the gathering and march and tell us that they felt empowered by chanting in a group as we walked across campus," says Title IX Coordinator Amanda Jantzi '06. "With the march, we affirm that this is a campus that supports survivors and values a community free from violence and harassment.”
Take Back the Night is the oldest worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence in all its forms, with events held annually in more than 1,000 communities across the United States and around the world. Through vigils, marches and rallies, participants unite to break the silence surrounding sexual violence, support survivors and call for an end to harassment and abuse.
Student organizers included Brooke Donnelly ’26, MSM’27, Hannah Green ’25, MAT’27 and Michelle Mangione ’27.
This year’s program included a joint keynote address by Chevy Devaney ’95, P’21, P’23, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Katie Flowers, Executive Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning.
All students, staff and faculty were encouraged to attend, whether as survivors or as supporters.
