Two Hobart hockey families share more than a love for the game — they share three names, three brothers and a legacy built on championship ice.

In the hockey world, names like Cooper, Bauer and Easton usually bring to mind the industry’s biggest equipment brands. But for Hobart hockey, those names belong to two families who have built their own legacy on the ice: the Morrisseys and the Swifts.

Between them, these families share more than just a passion for the sport. Each has three sons named Cooper, Bauer and Easton, and a deep connection to Hobart hockey.

Morrissey and Swift

Cooper Swift '25 and Bauer Morrissey '27 come from a line of hockey players in their families.

For the Swift family, Cooper Swift ’25 was the first to don the Statesmen jersey, arriving on campus in the fall of 2021. During four seasons, the standout defenseman played in 102 games, tallying 56 points on four goals and 52 assists while helping the team capture three national championships. A captain during his senior year, Cooper earned three College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors and received the NCAA Elite 90 Award as a sophomore. After graduation, he signed his first professional contract with the Pingouins de Morzine-Avoriaz in France’s Division I Hockey League.

His younger brother, Bauer Swift ’27, also a defenseman, transferred to Hobart after two seasons at UConn and is skating for the Statesmen this season. The youngest, Easton Swift, is currently playing junior hockey in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The Morrissey family’s lineup is similar to the Swifts'. Bauer Morrissey ’27, a two-time national champion, has already made a mark in his first two seasons with the Statesmen, appearing in 58 games and recording 50 points. In 2024, he was named the NEHC Rookie of the Year. A business management and entrepreneurship major, Bauer interned this past summer with the Bozzuto Group. His brother, Cooper Morrissey, while not on the ice is an ardant fan and is working as a personal trainer at the Skaneateles Community Center and toward a physical therapy degree. Easton Morrissey is a first-year on the Skaneateles High School ice hockey team and his family is hopeful that he will join the powerful legacy on Statesmen ice in the future.

The two families first crossed paths more than a decade ago at a youth hockey tournament when their sons were 12 years old. They reconnected at the 2024 NCAA National Championship in Hartford, Conn.

Now, as the two Bauers anchor Hobart’s blue line this season, the families’ shared history has come full circle — proof that in the hockey world, it really is a small world after all.
