5 March 2024 Patrick ’25 Secures Internship with Heidrick and Struggles By Melissa Crist '24

This summer, Maddie Patrick ’25 will gain professional skills from the world’s first leadership advisory firm.

For 10 weeks in Boston, Maddie Patrick ’25 will work alongside an executive manager at Heidrick and Struggles to take part in key meetings, compile summaries of resumes and gain firsthand exposure to the intricacies of the executive hiring process. The firm specializes in global executive search and leadership consulting for high profile companies.

“I am extremely excited to be able to learn more about HR and make connections to individuals who may be great resources for me as I graduate college,” says Patrick, a psychology and sociology double major. Patrick believes the opportunity will cultivate personal growth and deepen her understanding of the functions of a Human Resources Department.

On campus, Patrick is a member of the William Smith basketball team and serves as a recruitment coordinator. In this role, she organizes recruit visits, aligning her teammates’ schedules with visitors to integrate the team into each campus visit experience. She also works in the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations helping to manage schedules and campus events, such as Reunion.

Patrick studied in Aix-en-Provence, France last summer as part of Hobart and William Smith’s short-term summer programs. “I learned to enjoy new experiences and put myself in uncomfortable situations in order to get the best out of my time in France,” she says. “I enjoyed the new environment and culture and trying to understand other people's perspectives from across the world.”
