6 July 2023 • STEM Psych Honors Society Names HWS a Model Chapter

Hobart and William Smith’s Psychological Science Department was recognized by the field’s international honors society.

Psi Chi, the international honors society in psychology, has named Hobart and William Smith’s chapter as a 2022-23 Model Chapter. Selected from more than 1,150 chapters, the Colleges are among only 34 institutions to achieve the Model Chapter status this year.

“This honor demonstrates the commitment our department has to excelling in all of the work that we do including mentoring our leaders in Psi Chi,” says Professor of Psychological Science Jamie Bodenlos, faculty advisor of the Colleges’ Psi Chi chapter. “It is also great recognition of how hard our students are working to promote the field of Psychology on campus and in our community. It’s quite an honor to be chosen for this award.”

“I want to congratulate our Psi Chi members and Professor Bodenlos on this well-deserved recognition,” says Provost and Dean of Faculty Sarah Kirk. “The Psychological Science Department continually produces impressive research and scholarship that is the result of close collaborations between students and faculty. It’s wonderful to see that mentorship and hard work recognized.”

Psi Chi is an international honor society whose purpose is to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

Eligible psychology majors and minors are determined after the first of the year. New members are inducted in the spring at the Psi Chi induction banquet.
