12 February 2018 German Fluency Starts Here
The German Area Studies Department is kicking off the semester with weekly study tables on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Cellar Pub. Known in German as stammtisch, “the regulars’ table” allows students to converse with each other and the Julius G. Blocker ’53 Teaching Fellow Anna Meinig, a native of Dresden, Germany.
“These weekly meetings are a great way for students to share honest and meaningful experiences while exploring their interest in German,” Meinig says. “Through conversations about the latest soccer games and the music scene in Germany, students are supporting each other using language skills.”
During study table sessions, students also share their experiences from studying in Germany with others interested in pursuing one of the programs offered through the Colleges’ top ranked global education program. “We’re talking about current events in Germany, practicing our conversational German, and sharing information on affordable transportation, good food and cultural differences,” says Meinig.
The German study table, open to all members of the HWS campus community, is co-organized by the German Club, which also hosts cultural presentations and film screenings. Students interested in joining German Club can learn more on HWS Engage.
