Praised by theNew York Timesfor her richly monochromatic urban landscapes, artist Kathryn Lynch 83 will premiere two new solo shows in early 2016, one at the Tayloe Piggott Gallery in Jackson Hole, Wy., and the other at the Sears-Peyton Gallery in New York City.
More of her work is on display through Sunday, Nov. 29 at Senaspace Art Gallery, 229 Centre Street in Manhattan and will soon appear in a group show, City Lives, opening on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Shirley Fiterman Art Center, 81 Barclay Street also in Manhattan.
Lynchs work has appeared previously at the Tayloe Piggott Gallery, most recently in 2014, with an exhibit titled Tug Tug. On Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, her new solo exhibit,Shifting Scenes, will open; a catalogue of the show will be available.
Earlier this year, Lynchs Maine Paintings a landscape series that captures the experience and fading memory of a visit to Vinalhaven, Maine were exhibited at the Sears-Peyton Gallery. Her new show,A View of Ones Own, will open on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 and will be in two parts. The first part will focus on her summer work from Shelter Island and the second part that opens in March will focus on paintings based on Brooklyn, N.Y.
Born and raised in Chestnut Hill, Penn.,, Lynch earned her undergraduate degree in studio art from William Smith College and defines her undergraduate years by the deeply influential time she spent at Houghton House. She went on to earn an MFA at the University of Pennsylvania. Lynch has displayed her work in solo and group exhibitions with galleries and institutionsacross theU.S. She has received numerous grants and awards, includingresidencies at Yaddo, the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, Skowhegan, The MillayColony, The Vermont Studio Center, and recently the Joya Art + Ecologia, Spanish Residency a one year opportunity at Cortijada Los Gzquez given to prolific, ecologically responsible artists.
Her workalso is held in public collectionssuch as The University of California Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley,Calif.; The Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Wash.; The Progressive Corporation,Cleveland, Ohio; and Johnson & Johnson, Princeton, N.J. Two large paintings can be seen on the second floor of the Ritz Carlton in Battery Park City in New York City. Lynchs work has been covered in numerous publications including ARTnews Magazine,Elle Decor Magazine,New York Magazine, Guernica magazine, 1stDibs and theNew York Times.She lives and works in Brooklyn.
