8 March 2013 RecycleMania Going Strong

According to the RecycleMania website, the Colleges continue to make good progress toward their 35 percent goal. More Sweeps, Hall Crawls, and diversion events are planned for the remainder of the semester, and faculty, staff and students can contribute by thinking ahead to spring cleaning and requesting a blue recycling bag from Landi@hws.edu. The Colleges motto is: R3 to the Top: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

RecycleMania began in January 2001 as a challenge between Ohio University and Miami University, when the two recycling coordinators at the schools were looking for a way to motive their student bodies to recycle more. The two schools decided to take advantage of the existing sports rivalry and challenged each other to see who could recycle the most. Since then, this challenge has become a national competition, and has spread awareness greatly.

National recognition is provided to the winning school in each category on the RecycleMania website and in a national press release. Winning schools receive an award made out of recyclable materials, and win the right to host that categorys special traveling trophy for the coming year.
