Students, Faculty Spell for Charity
5 March 2013 Students, Faculty Spell for Charity
Last month, community members gathered for the 11th annual adult spelling bee to benefit the Literacy Volunteers of Ontario-Yates (LVOY), a not-for-profit organization committed to providing adults the literacy skills needed to reach their full potential.
Associate Professor of Art Lara Blanchard, Associate Professor of Russian Studies Kristen Welsh, and Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Darrin Magee fielded a team, Beewildered, and raised $425 for the organization. The student team representing the Colleges called themselves Beeware and included Natia Bueno 14, Kelly Craig 16, Tori Freeman 16, and Charlie DeBenedetto 16 (alternate) and raised an additional $300 for the LVOY.
A sampling of the words from the bee include: supererogation, thanatotic, firkin, engobe, flagitious.
