Concluding this semesters Fisher Center lecture series is American literary theorist and political philosopherMichael Hardt. Hardt will discuss this years theme of the commons, with a talk on The Right to the Common, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Geneva Room of the Warren Hunting Smith Library.
Chair of the Literature Program at Duke, Hardt will examine how the right to the common has become the heart of many struggles in contemporary society. Much of his recent writing focuses onthe political, legal, economic and social aspects of globalization. Through political and critical theory, Hardt analyzes the current global power structure particularly how it functions and how it is changing.
Hardt is co-author with Antonio Negri ofDeclarationas well as theEmpiretrilogy. He currently serves as editor ofThe South Atlantic Quarterly. Hardt received a B.S. in engineering from Swarthmore College, a M.A. and Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Washington.
