A Universal Language
9 November 2012 A Universal Language
Both international and United States born students will share their cultures through their talents on Sunday, Nov. 11, at the International Student Music Recital at 1 p.m. in St. Johns Chapel.
The annual event is a way to showcase the many noteworthy contributions international students make to the HWS community, says David Gage, director of international student affairs. Students take great pride in sharing their cultures. Music is a language we all speak.
Members of the student band S.H.H will rock the chapel with their rendition of Whats Up by 4 Non-Blondes and Rolling in the Deep by Adel. Band members include Jiyoon Jeong, an exchange student from Seoul, Korea, on vocals; San-Fan Hong 16, of Taipei City, Taiwan, on drums; Kingsley Adarkwah 13, of Bronx, N.Y., on keyboard; Nina Vtorushina, an exchange student from Tomsk, Russia, on guitar; and Ensuk Cho, an exchange student from Seoul, Korea, on bass guitar.
Solo vocalist Irene Karaliota 16, of Thessaloniki, Greece, will perform Better Me by Fiona Sit and Yi Lei 14, of Wuhan, China, will give her rendition of Josh Grobands You Raised Me Up. Performances also include a poetry reading by Sharafudin Mirzayee 15, of Kabul, Afghanistan. Special guest President Mark D. Gearan will conclude the afternoon with a piano solo.
