The Art and Architecture Department will host two art exhibits, Force of Invention and Biography and Fond: Design and Production, which will run from Nov. 16 to Dec. 15 in the Davis Gallery at Houghton House.
Force of Invention features the artwork of Lenore Thomas, Sarah Smelser and Karen Kunc. All three of these artists work with bright colors, light, nature and occasional dark undertones. Associate Professor of Art and Architecture Nick Ruth is curator of this exhibit.
Biography and Fond features the work of Sarah Bryant. Bryants art explores the extent to which small, personal items encapsulate the bigger picture. Assistant Professor of Architectural Studies Kirin Makker is the curator of this exhibit.
The opening reception takes place Friday, Nov. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m., preceded by a talk from 6 to 7 p.m. by Thomas.
Additionally, the art and architecture department invites the community to several complementary events. Thomas will demonstrate screen-printing and digital techniques in painting and printmaking on Friday, Nov. 16, from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Elliott Studio Arts Building.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. -12:30 p.m., also in the Elliott Studio Arts Building, Kunc will demonstrate an innovative woodcut technique. From 12:30-2 p.m., the department will celebrate the exhibition with a luncheon. To reserve a seat, contact Ruth. Also on Saturday, from 2-3 p.m., Kunc will give a talk about her work in the Davis Gallery. Bryants talk will take place on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 4:30 p.m., also in the Davis Gallery.
