The Hobart College squash team blanked Ithaca College 9-0 in its season opener played today at the Smith Squash Center.
The Statesmen logged 3-0 wins at every spot. Sophomore McGee ONeil defeated Sion Sennon 11-6, 11-3, 11-5 at the top spot. Junior William Boyle cruised to an 11-0, 11-0, 11-3 triumph at No. 2, and senior Edgardo Gonzalez topped Ty Broderson 11-9, 11-5, 11-4.
Seniors Julian Snider and Eric DeRose followed with 11-5, 11-2, 11-0 and 11-0, 11-0, 11-4 at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. First-year Danny Cabrera earned his first collegiate win, 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 at the No. 6 spot. In their collegiate squash debuts, first-year Peter Sammis won 11-3, 11-5, 11-0 at No. 7 and Spencer Ward registered an 11-2, 11-0, 11-0 win at No. 8. First-year Michael Woods also posted his first collegiate win at No. 9, 11-1, 11-0, 11-0.
The Statesmen will be back in action when they compete in the 2012 Navy Round Robin on Nov. 10-11.
