Thom Brucie 95, assistant professor of English and creative writing at Brewton-Parker College, recently published a chapbook of poems called Moments Around the Campfire With a Vietnam Vet. Published by Cervena Barva Press, the work has been featured on National Public Radio.
The poems in Moments Around The Campfire With A Vietnam Vet flow with an incredible narrative voice spoken from the recollected perspective of a ghost poet with a precise eye for detail, a poet who carries you along the beautiful waterfall of misery with your eyes wide open and your heart in your throat, said Lana Maht Wiggins of the University of Louisiana. Each poem commands the page, daring the reader to deny its verity and weight, forbidding the reader to dismiss the small totals of Vietnam we still dont speak about. Wow. Brucie teaches creative writing, American literature, and folklore. He earned a B.A. in English from Hobart College, summa cum laude. While at Hobart, Brucie was a member of Phi Betta Kappa and the Writing Colleagues program on campus. He earned his MA in English at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, and his Ph.D at Binghamton University. His short story collection, Still Waters: Five Stories was nominated for a Georgia Author of the Year award in the short fiction category. His poems and stories have appeared in a variety of journals, including DEROS, Southwestern Review, San Joaquin Review, Cappers, and others.
