Essay Writing to Copy Writing
Samantha Dighton 12 is spending her second summer as an intern in the Advertising and Promotions Department of Hachette Book Group, in New York City. Among the companys imprints are Grand Central Publishing and Little, Brown & Company. Dighton is a copy intern, responsible for editing and writing advertisements for placement in newspapers and magazines, as well as occasionally for radio and television.
Last summer I got to workin the recording studio on several ads Id helped create for radio, which was really cool, she recalls. This summer, Im writing and editing catalogue copy which then gets sent to booksellers to inform them of the upcoming seasons books.
Alum, Martha Stillman Otis 81, who works in the publishing industry, helped Dighton find this opportunity. She and my mom were roommates their first-year at HWS and have been friends ever since, explains Dighton.
Dighton is double majoring in Writing and Rhetoric and Dance. A resident assistant, a Writing Colleague, and involved in Koshare, Dighton plans to participate in the study abroad program in Wales in the spring.
