Reunion 2010 was a weekend of celebration and recognition, of fond memories and great hopes for the future.
Campus tours, Alumni College classes, Reunion class dinners, William Smith High Tea, the Distinguished Faculty Award Ceremony and a panel discussion of athletics at Hobart and William Smith all helped alums get back in touch with the Colleges and the Geneva area.
Wow, 50 years. Its hard to believe, said Leonard Fink 60, who traveled to campus from New York City and spent Friday getting reacquainted with the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes with A Walk on the Wild Side, a tour of HWS Hanley Nature Preserve with Professor of Biology Jim Ryan.
Events like the U.S. National Health Care Symposium, Admissions workshops and President Mark D. Gearans State of the Colleges address presented alums with recent updates.
We welcome alums to hear stories of your time and to see the outcomes of an HWS education in your accomplishments, Gearan said.
Addressing recent changes, honors, triumphs and challenges over the past year including building projects, Fulbright awards and the state of the economy Gearan said, Were hopeful and optimistic as we conclude the year because these are times that allow us to think expansively. Were visioning forward, with experiences charted by and enhanced by those who preceded.
Returning to campus from Florence, Oregon, Mickey Liebling 65 said of new building projects like the Caird Center, The planning here is outstanding. It really preserves the character of the place.
In addition to the Reunion Parade and Presidents Reunion Forum, where the contributions of alums over the past year were recognized and record-breaking gifts were presented, alums were able to dig through the HWS archives, gather for Reunion photos and lounge by the Oaks Tent.
There was plenty of relaxation and entertainment throughout the weekend for all Reunion classes with the annual lakeside golf outing, the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, a live taping of NPRs Says You! and the musical styling of Bob Masteller 60 and Steve Venuti 71, the Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra and Brass Taxi.
While some things have changed around campus and some have remained the same, after a weekend back on campus, as former Trustee Susan Albert P07, P09 said, It couldnt be better.
